Eden Park Illumination Awarded $100,000 STTR Grant by the US Air Force

Eden Park Illumination has been awarded a Phase I STTR from the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research to pursue the development of next generation Microplasma flat light sources.

This grant will support the research collaboration of the next 9 months (beginning Oct. 15, 2008) between Eden Park Illumination and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This research will further develop the thin, lightweight, energy efficient Microplasma devices for lighting applications. Dr. Sung-Jin Park, Principal Investigator of the project, will collaborate with Dr. J. Gary Eden, Director of Laboratory for Optical Physics and Engineering, at the University of Illinois where they will be responsible for the scientific investigation of the new lighting sources.

"We have received review comments of ‘excellent’ on the preliminary efforts and data for the project goals and business plan. The award of this grant for Microplasma technology is timely under rapid growth of market demands on environmentally friendly and energy efficient lighting sources and very helpful
to accelerate our commercialization efforts," said Dr. Sung-Jin Park, VP of Science at Eden Park Illumination.

Small Business Technology Transfer Program (STTR)

STTR funds are dedicated to collaborations between universities and small businesses engaged in technology transfer to promote the development of academic technologies into commercial applications. Success in Phase I funding will allow Eden Park Illumination to apply for additional funding via Phase II, which would support continual development of Microplasma lighting.
